Porcelain Veneers

There were limited choices in the early days when it came to imperfect teeth; you pretty much only had your choice of dental crowns or caps. Besides tooth whitening, bonding and contouring, there are porcelain veneers to help you gain that gorgeous smile.

Veneers are thin, porcelain coverings placed on the front surface of teeth, masking a variety of imperfections. Dental porcelain veneers offer remarkable strength and look natural while giving patients that vibrant, symmetrical smile of their dreams.

Depending on the strength of your teeth, we determine if they can withstand the veneer placement. If we determine that veneers are right for you, we remove a minimal amount of enamel so that the veneers blend and sit well on the gum line. This avoids the teeth looking too “boxy” or unnatural. Next, we make a mold of the teeth and send them off to the dental ceramics lab. A skilled lab technician fabricates your veneers using layers of dental porcelain. After your veneers return from the lab, you will return to our office for them to be fitted and bonded. We may ask you for a follow-up visit in a couple of weeks to assess how your gums are responding to the presence of your veneer and to reexamine its placement.

Veneers function like your natural teeth once implanted. Eat, drink, and be merry without a care. However, to ensure your veneers’ longevity, follow these care tips:

  • Brush and floss them every day, like your own teeth.
  • Continue regularly-scheduled dental checkups and cleanings.
  • Use non-abrasive toothpaste to avoid scratching veneers. Our staff can recommend the best brand for veneer needs.
  • Reduce your intake of foods and drinks that stain natural tooth enamel because they stain dental porcelain as well: red wine, dark fruits and coffee. Rinsing the mouth with water after eating and drinking minimizes stains, too.
  • Be gentle. Avoid biting your nails, crunching ice, and wear a mouthguard during sports.
